The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, set for the end of September in Washington, should be rescheduled in the wake of Tuesday’s terrorist attacks, a U.S. official said Friday.

The official, who asked not to be named, said the IMF and the World Bank might make an announcement about the meetings, scheduled for Sept. 29 and 30, within the next few days.

As many as 100,000 protesters were expected at the meetings, and sources said they had no desire to put Washington through any more trouble so soon after this week’s horrific events.

Protests at recent global financial gatherings have grown increasingly violent.
