To improve access to Palatine’s new commuter train station, a village panel has endorsed an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation to fund improvements to Smith and Brockway Streets and the new station.

The Infrastructure and Environment Committee urged the Village Council on Monday to approve the agreement when it meets Monday.

The village could get $181,000 in grants for the project, Village Manager Michael J. Cassady said.

The village has been awarded funds through Operation Green Light to improve pedestrian and motor vehicle access at the station. Improvements include Pace turn lanes and a Kiss ‘n’ Ride drop-off area.

The village would provide $75,000 for the project.

The $3.2 million train station opened in June.
