An American is first and foremost an idealist, one who believes in the ideals of liberty, freedom, democracy, justice and tolerance. An American is proud to espouse these values, for they are the very cornerstones upon which our republic is built–a system of government of, by and for the people.
It is the expression of our beliefs through the forum of a democratic republic and the ideals we espouse that we can be defined as American. Not solely by happenstance of geographical location.
