Name: Todd Schultz
Job: Stage manager, security for the “Jerry Springer Show”; doorman at Nocturnal, Spy Bar
Years: Seven years at Springer; one year as club doorman
Pay: “I make decent money, but you can never make enough cash.”
Q. Do you run into a lot of closet “Jerry Springer Show” fans when you’re out and about?
A. Yes. It usually happens when I’m acting as doorman at the clubs. People approach me all the time and say they know me from somewhere, but when I ask them from where, they get all embarrassed.
People don’t want to admit to watching the show for whatever reasons. But it’s refreshing when someone like Charles Barkley comes up to me, Steve [another “Springer” bouncer] or Jerry, slap us on the backs and exclaim, “Hey, I love your show!”
Q. What’s the most outrageous behind-the-scenes thing you can talk about from the show?
A. Three years ago, this guy cut off his manhood because he thought it would stop this gay guy from stalking him. We didn’t believe him, so backstage before the show, I asked him for a picture to show the audience. He didn’t have one, but instead he offered to allow our cameras to shoot him. He dropped his pants right there, and sure enough, nothing was there.
