Wilbur Miner, 89, of Batavia, died Monday, Sept. 17, in his home. Born in Wayne, Neb., Mr. Miner moved to Batavia in 1924 and graduated from Batavia High School in 1930. He worked as a farmer, foundry worker, lumber worker, carpenter and ironworker. Known as “Bill” to family and friends, Mr. Miner was a lifelong member of the Batavia Moose, the Kane Kounty Kar Klub and the Batavia VFW. His hobbies included woodworking and building dollhouses. He was a gifted storyteller whose tall tales were woven with humor, love and creative plot twists. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elna; a son, Glenn; a daughter, Susan Carney; a brother, Howard; two sisters, Elizabeth Ness and Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Bethany Lutheran Church, Wilson and Lincoln Streets, Batavia.
