Somehow the picture of James Phillips’ ashes being dumped into the Fox River (Metro, Nov. 26) seems inconsistent with his life’s work. I find it incredulous that to honor an environmentalist who declared war on pollution, his family and friends would pollute the river even more by pouring a foreign substance into it.

The article states the river is cleaner than it was in 1969 when Phillips took up his cause. How clean will it be if everyone decides to pour cremains in the river?
