I played high school football for Coach George O’Leary and, like many of his former players, was elated by his move to Notre Dame and saddened by his sudden departure. The happiness is for a man who taught me about courage, perseverance and honor. O’Leary helped me, and hundreds of others, become a better person.
One great lesson O’Leary taught his players is to take responsibility. After the way he handled this difficult situation, I have never been more proud to call him coach.
