General Motors and the United Auto Workers have unveiled a mobile crime lab, a Chevrolet Express with a 110-volt electric system for examining forensic evidence at a crime scene. GM’s Pontiac Pre-Production Operations constructed the vehicle, which included tasks such as hand-building cabinetry, wiring electrical systems and integrating a portable generator. The van has an ambulance body, sockets for cellphones and laptops, mobile exterior lighting for illuminating crime scenes and hazardous waste containers for evidence storage. It was donated to the Michigan State Police.
