I was pleased to see the Feb. 13 editorial “Iran and the `axis of evil.'” Recently there has been a small but growing chorus of left-leaning ideologues who have been carping about the president’s use of the term “axis of evil.” They would have us believe that in using such language, we invite, encourage and bring about the ultimate political success of, for example, the dangerous forces within this axis.

You clearly brought your readers back to reality by outlining just a few of the dangers that Iran poses to the civilized world at large.

We cannot afford as a nation to act based upon irrational and unrealistic understandings of how the world operates. We need clear thinking and clear talking at the highest levels to develop a path to the goal of global security for all people, which we seek.

It’s time to applaud the clear thinking and clear talking of the Bush administration, and to thank the Tribune for its needed dose of reality.
