The 2002 Winter Olympics served up thrills and spills, triumphs and controversy. Here’s what kids told us they’d remember most about the Games:

First women’s bobsled gold: “I liked the movie ‘Cool Runnings’ and wanted to watch bobsledding after my dad told me it was a true story. I liked how the U.S. team who finished first did it in world-record time.” Gracie H., 11

Pairs skating controversy: “It was interesting how the French judge kind of cheated. When the Canadians didn’t win, I thought it was very unfair.” Lizzy Y., 11

Men’s short-track speed skating: “I’ll remember when Apolo Ohno fell and the first Australian won gold in the Olympics. I felt bad for Ohno, who had to get six stitches.” Amanda S., 10

The security: “I read they found a backpack and cleared three blocks.” Liz P., 11

Women’s figure skating: “It’s really surprising how hard skaters train for a few minutes on ice. Some do it for the experience, not a medal.” Chloe J., 11
