The ruling by Judge Ronald Himel in the death of Louis Schmude was abominable, to say the least (“Judge acquits 3 in Schmude trial; Testimony in case was inconsistent, Himel insists,” Page 1, March 13). The three sheriff’s officers he found not guilty surely knew the fix was in when they chose a bench trial instead of a jury trial.
Judge Himel showed no evidence of impartiality or an open mind, or any kind of mind for that matter.
Schmude was a human being with problems, but he was not any less of a human being because of his problems and he did not inflict those injuries on himself.
