Robert E. Jones, 84, a retired accountant, died Tuesday, March 12, in Johnson Healthcare Center at Windsor Park Manor from heart failure. Mr. Jones was born in Mitchell, Neb. He graduated from Wheaton College in 1940 and married his wife, Edith, in 1942. He began his career with Sears, Roebuck and Co. as an accountant and ended it 33 years later in the same position, passing up many promotions, said his daughter, Jacqueline Carbone. “He was offered many chances to be promoted but he said he didn’t want the headaches that came with it,” she said. Instead, he focused on his wife, two children and his faith. Over the years, he was involved with the Glen Ellyn Bible Church, where he served as an elder; Wheaton Bible Church; Calvary Community Church in Lacon, Ill.; and most recently, the Pleasant Hill Community Church. “What he lived for was Christ. … He was quiet and strong,” his daughter said. He and his wife moved to Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream five years ago. In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Jones is survived by a son, Keith; a sister, Ruth Ella Johnson; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Hill Community Church, 26W401 Geneva Rd., near Wheaton.
