Frank G. Restis, 87, a retired truck driver and a lifelong resident of Chicago, died Friday, April 19, in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. After graduating from high school, he entered the roofing business with his father-in-law, who owned a roofing company. He joined the Marines during World War II and served in the South Pacific. He returned to Chicago and the roofing business for a few years, then took a job with Chicago Cartage Co. as a truck driver. “And there he stayed until he retired in 1976,” said his son Leonard. After his retirement Mr. Restis and his wife of 64 years, Marie, enjoyed taking trips to the East Coast to visit relatives and friends as well as to such Texas cities as Houston and Galveston. Mr. Restis was always looking out for others, his son said. “He was very, very kind and was always helping people,” his son said. “This last winter, at 87 years old, he was outside shoveling snow off the walks of the `older people,’ he would say.” Other survivors include another son, Kenneth; a daughter, Frances Nixon; three sisters, Elaine Pedersen, Dolores Petersen and Marion Engh; two brothers, Robert and Harold; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Resurrection Church, 30W350 Army Trail Rd., Bartlett.
