Karan E. Hoffman, 89, of Naperville, formerly of California, a musician, died of cancer Saturday, June 1, in Independence Village in Naperville. Born in Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Hoffman moved to Naperville a year ago to be closer to family. She was a former resident of Leisure World in Seal Beach, Calif. She received a bachelor’s degree from Drury College in Springfield, Mo., in 1935 and studied at Juilliard School in New York in 1938. During her career, Mrs. Hoffman worked as a pianist and organist for Pacific Community College, Coastline Community College and Leisure World. Family members said she instilled a love of music in her children and grandchildren, particularly her son, Edward, a trumpeter with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed gardening and loved to travel. Other survivors include a son, George “Skip”; a sister, Freida Gould; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held June 15, in Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worthington Drive, Naperville.
