James Condie, 17, a Schaumburg teenager known for his good humor and dedication to his church, died Tuesday, June 11, after having breathing problems when he was pulled over for a routine traffic stop in downtown Chicago. Known as Fred–a childhood nickname that stuck–he lived most of his childhood in Salt Lake City and later in Colorado before moving to the Chicago area six years ago. “He handled the transition really well,” said his father, Scott. He described his son as an outgoing and personable young man who planned to serve a church mission and then go to school to become a lawyer. James Condie recently graduated from Conant High School in Hoffman Estates. He spent summers as a kitchen worker and camp counselor at Camp Napowan in Wisconsin and was days away from becoming an Eagle Scout. Though he had a history of asthma, he loved biking, camping and played most any kind of church ball, said his father. The Cook County medical examiner’s office is conducting toxicology tests. Other survivors include his mother, Debora Keller; two brothers, Jason and Jeffrey; and his grandparents, Russ and Faye Condie, Elmo Keller and Bonnie Smith. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Michael’s Funeral Home, 800 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Services will be at noon Friday in the Schaumburg Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1320 W. Schaumburg Rd..
