With all this chatter about Sept. 11 and the new security measures, no one is bothering to ask the critical questions. The fact someone hated us enough to commit such an atrocious act leads us to the root of the real problem.

The real problem is American presence in foreign countries, in foreign disputes that do not in any way threaten the rights of American individuals. The solution is to withdraw any official American involvement from any place in the world where such presence is not needed to defend the rights of Americans.

There seems to be this idea that it’s either freedom or security, but any loss of freedom is a loss of security. Freedom is an integral part of security. Security is only in place to ensure your rights and freedoms. It cannot morally be used to curtail those freedoms, because that would necessarily amount to a loss of security.
