As I get older, I will pass on the real legacy of the Bill Clinton presidency to my children and grandchildren. For eight years, we enjoyed prosperity, declining crime rates and peace throughout most of the world.

He governed under such scrutiny and hatred from the GOP that most would have wilted under the pressure. Among the list of initiatives that Clinton promised and delivered during his tenure are: cutting the projected annual deficit, raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, increasing assistance to the working poor under the Earned Income Tax Credit, increasing federal spending for worker retraining, expanding Head Start, supporting NAFTA and increasing the Pell grant program for disadvantaged college students. All of these taken together jump-started the economy and created many new jobs.

As with all great leaders throughout history, such as Winston Churchill and John Kennedy, he did have flaws. Despite those flaws, he worked hard on the issues that mattered most to the American people.

For that, I wanted to personally thank Clinton. Someone has to.
