The Village Board favors a design for a new public safety center that would be similar to Village Hall.
In March, trustees voted to build a second public safety center that would mainly serve as a fire station for the town’s growing west side. The center is planned for a 2-acre site donated by Pulte Homes in the Carrington Reserve subdivision at Illinois Highway 72 and Sleepy Hollow Road.
The plan, presented Monday night by representatives of FGM, an architecture and engineering firm in Algonquin, includes a 26,000-square-foot center with a basement that would provide space for the Police and Building Departments.
The plan also includes space for a village employee training room.
The cost is estimated at $5.1 million, excluding communications equipment and furniture.
A $10 million bond sale approved by trustees in May will pay for it. Work is scheduled to begin in spring.
