I greatly enjoyed reading “50 years later, pairs say: I still do; 640 couples renew their vows at mass in Holy Name Cathedral” (Metro, Sept. 23). It was so refreshing to read an article about love everlasting. It’s nice to know that there are couples out there whose relationships withstand the test of time.
Marriage used to be described as “an institution.” Unfortunately people now talk of “first marriages” as if they already know the marriages will end.
Marriage should be taken seriously. It is not “happily ever after”; it is a constant work in progress, and only true love can guide you through.
The 640 couples who renewed their vows have not let their relationships fall apart from sweating the small stuff.
They are an inspiration, and the future generations of this nation should follow their example. They have taken their vows seriously, as we all should.
