Silas Strawn Cathcart, 76, passed away Oct. 29, 2002 at his retirement home in Lake Forest. Graduate of Princeton University in 1948, he was a retired chairman and CEO of Illinois Tool Works Inc. Former director of Allegiance Corp., American Stores Co., Baxter International, Bethleham Steel Corp., Cardinal Health, General Electric Co., Illinois Tool Works Inc., Montgomery Ward & Co., Northern Trust Corp., Quaker Oaks Co., and Chairman Trustees of Northern Funds. His distinguish career included Chairman of the Board of Trustee of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Director and Executive committee member of the National Board of The Boys Scouts of America. He was a Director of Trustee for dozens of business organizations, charities, funds and clubs. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Corlene Hobbs; their five children Strawn, James, Daniel, David and Corlene; and 10 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Buffalo Bill Historical Center, 720 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY 82414 or to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, 750 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago, IL 60611. A memorial service will be held at 4p.m. Wednesday Nov. 6, 2002 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster Rd, Lake Forest, IL. Interment private.
