Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s not every day that you get turned on by what you see, or have an opportunity to try out a few retired disco moves.

So prepare yourself for such an experience at Lightology, a contemporary lighting showroom at 215 W. Chicago Ave.

Moments of magic–and even a chance to squeal into the electric slide dance–await you.

Formerly known as Tech Lighting Galleries, Lightology celebrated the opening of its second and third floors last week. The lighting showroom is now 15,000 square feet with the addition of these two floors.

When you step on the second-floor landing you get quite a surprise: The floor, a 3-by-4-foot piece of the original “Saturday Night Fever” dance, is suddenly illuminated by colored lights, a disco ball overhead begins to revolve and the Bee Gees start singing “Staying Alive.”

The floor isn’t for sale but president and owner Gregory Kay says Lightology designers will work with anyone who wants to re-create it. For now, it’s just a fun piece of art and lighting design and a nod to Kay’s mentor Paul Gregory, who helped design the floor for the movie.

There are also designs by noted lighting designers such as Richard Sapper, Ron Rezak, Enzo Calellani, Phillipe Starck and Mariono Fortuny. Prices range from $60 for a picture light to $4,000 for a Murano glass chandelier.
