The District 46 Board of Education awarded a $4.9 million construction contract to a Chicago company to remodel Larkin High School in Elgin and build an addition.

Kajima Construction Services will build a dance studio, expand the girls locker room, add storage for maintenance and remodel the commercial kitchen.

The company also will install new lighting on the second floor and replace plumbing, electrical, fire protection and heating and air conditioning systems.

Most of the work will be completed by mid-November 2003.

District staff members also recommended approval of a $771,000 construction contract with Aurora-based L.J. Morse Construction Co. to renovate Nature Ridge Elementary School in Bartlett. The district plans to add four classrooms and a storage room and update landscaping.

The board will vote on the administration’s recommendation Monday.
