OX4–The Best of Ride
England’s “shoegazer” scene (so named because the uncharismatic bands involved usually stood on stage staring at their feet) burned briefly but brightly throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s. Near the top of the heap was Oxfordshire’s Ride, who paired dreamily psychedelic pop songs with fuzzy guitar overkill. “OX4” draws from each of the band’s four loud and underappreciated albums. An extra disc of bonus material collects a few hard-to-find odds and ends, but it’s the first disc that’ll leave newcomers awestruck.
