I was on the 20-yard line Wednesday in Jacksonville. Excited as the band played the Notre Dame fight song. Then my day was ruined–they kicked off and the game began.
This was the Bob Davie team: no emotion, no fire and no execution even if they were without five starters. Irish cornerback Vontez Duff was quoted as saying, “I guess they wanted it more than we did.” What an insult to the ND faithful.
The Notre Dame team of Games 1-8 and Games 9-13 were as different as night and day. The beginning of the “end” could be seen in the self-destruction against Boston College. The (non-)performance in Jacksonville supports Rick Morrissey’s Jan. 2 column to a T–this team is in reverse.
Tyrone, 10 wins was terrific, but the honeymoon is over.
