Daredevil jumpers concluded an extreme skydiving tournament Sunday that had them leaping from Malaysia’s loftiest landmarks, including some of the world’s tallest buildings.

A record 70 parachutists have launched off the 1,483-foot Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia’s largest city since Dec. 28. On Sunday, they moved to Kuala Lumpur’s 1,403-foot KL Tower for the final day of competition.

This Southeast Asian country has hosted four such events since December 2000 and has become a haven for base jumpers, who parachute from a fixed object instead of an airplane. The activity has been driven underground in most countries, where divers leap at night and flee when they land.

On Dec. 31, 10 divers threw themselves off the nickel-plated Petronas Towers moments before midnight, thrilling New Year’s Eve revelers.

Last year, a Dutch diver broke his leg when he hit the Petronas and crashed onto the roof of a mall after his parachute twisted. Another jumper hit a wall but spun off and landed safely.
