Converting a sand volleyball court is the most recent option the Lisle Park District is considering for a proposed skateboard park.
In a report last month to Park District commissioners, Supt. Dan Garvy said architects assisting the district with the master plan believe the court at Tate Woods Park on Middleton Avenue is a reasonable site for the skate park.
District staffers have proposed converting the tennis courts at Tate Woods Park into a skate park.
Garvy also said in his memo that the $150,000 budgeted for the park may not cover the entire cost,, but it is a “reasonable figure” for “slightly expanding the area, concrete and fencing” to build a skate park on the volleyball court.
“It can in fact be done for under the $200,000 we thought,” parks director Roy Cripe said. “We now have a spot.”
The cost of resurfacing the courts is estimated at $6,500. Installing skate structures would cost $43,000 to $75,000. The Park District is looking into obtaining grants or holding fundraisers to help pay for the project and plans to ask the Village of Lisle for financial help.
The district staff said it would like to complete the park this year.
