A study by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development says that the percentage of infants who usually slept in beds with adults rose from 5.5 percent in 1993 to 12.8 percent in 2000. An average of 64 young children die each year while sleeping in bed with an adult, according to a 1999 study.
