Willie Green had 27 points and Terrell Riggs added 14 as Detroit Mercy defeated Loyola 72-54 Thursday night.
Detroit (7-7, 2-3 Horizon League) turned a first-half tie at 29-29 into a comfortable lead with a 17-5 run, spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.
After taking the lead, Detroit did not trail again. The Ramblers (7-11, 3-3) never got closer than eight in the second half.
The Titans, who improved to 5-1 at Calihan Hall, won just their second game since Dec. 21.
Loyola guard David Bailey, the Horizon League’s preseason player of the year, was held to three points on 1-of-14 shooting, significantly below his 17.3 points-per-game average.
In addition to his scoring, Riggs also grabbed eight rebounds, six in the first half.
As a team Loyola shot just 35 percent from the field. Both teams struggled shooting the ball early in the first half until the Titans broke free to take a 37-29 halftime lead.
Detroit finished with its best free-throw shooting game of the season, connecting on 13-of-16.
Loyola also was impressive from the stripe, going 9-of-10.
