It was a busy morning at the big-box megastore, and the home furnishings department was crowded. A couple we know were waiting at the counter for an elderly sales associate, who they guessed was a retired part-timer, to finish a telephone conversation with his wife. What they overheard told them they were in for a long day.
“Marge,” he said, “did I leave my hearing aid at home?”
