What’s happening: Why roll up your sleeves and get messy during the spring planting season if the village of Winnetka will do some of the dirty work for you? As part of the Parkway Tree-Planting Program, residents can choose from more than 40 species of trees that the village will plant in front of homes. Cost: It’s free for trees with trunks up to 2 1/2 inches in diameter. When: The deadline to apply is Tuesday. Bonus: Larger trees are available, but residents must cover part of the cost.
