Bars

New contender

With the Cubs in first place (for now), there’s even more reason to tune into tonight’s game in Pittsburgh. Head to The Dark Horse Tavern, a new bar a few blocks from Wrigley Field that aims to balance its sporty and sophisticated leanings. There are plenty of flat-screen TVs, dark mahogany wood throughout and $3 Detroit-style Coney dogs (a hot dog topped with chili, onions and shredded cheese). 3443 N. Sheffield Ave. 773-248-4400.

dining

Extra-special Easter eats

Almost as breathtaking as the Easter brunch at North Pond (2610 N. Cannon Drive. 773-477-5845) is the restaurant’s stunning view of Lincoln Park and the skyline. Special menu items include a brioche crouton topped with a poached egg and parmesan tuile (left). $50. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Or, kitsch it up at Kitsch’n on Roscoe (2005 W. Roscoe St. 773-248-7372). Specials include crab cakes Benedict with chile corn bread hash and smoked ham. 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Find more brunches on metromix.com.

music

Still popping

The three-week International Pop Overthrow, which gets its name from local trio Material Issue’s 1991 album, kicks off tonight at Subterranean. Fittingly, the group’s bassist, Ted Ansani, is the headlining act. Frontman Jim Ellison’s 1996 suicide ended the power-pop group’s run, but Ansani’s solo work continues in Material Issue’s melodic and driving tradition. He takes the stage at 11:30 p.m.; the festival starts at 7:30 p.m. Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. 773-278-6600. The cover is $9.
