Close your eyes, and picture your idea of a domestic goddess. Does she resemble Nigella Lawson or Roseanne Barr?

By virtue of her tight sweaters alone–and that image is mostly what Lawson’s TV success is about–the Brit could win the title of Domestic Goddess, even if she hadn’t written the best-selling cooking manual “How to Be a Domestic Goddess.”

Her cooking show, “Nigella Bites,” established her as a sex symbol. She’s also quite media savvy, doing the talk show rounds to promote “Forever Summer With Nigella,” her new series on the Style cable channel at 7 p.m. Saturday before moving to its regular day and time, 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

But Barr can claim first rights to the title of Domestic Goddess. For several seasons, her ABC sitcom “Roseanne” played with the idea of what being a domestic goddess means. Still, Barr’s trailblazing routine pales before Lawson’s reinvention of the idea of domesticity. Therefore, news of Lawson’s new show inspires a little more excitement than Barr’s announcement that she is at work on a ‘Goddess’-themed comeback.

Barr has the green light to create two shows based on a variety program, currently known as “The Domestic Goddess Hour.” The main show, featuring chefs, celebrities, music performances and “remote adventures,” will air on the ABC Family Network after ABC’s 13-week run of a reality program about the quest to get the show made.

If Barr wants to reclaim her title, she’d do well to keep an eye on what Lawson’s up to.
