Until her teenage son took his life a decade ago, Naperville resident Sherry Bryant was much like any other mother. Now she is a winner of the Everett I. Hageman Award from the Illinois Public Health Association for her tireless efforts to increase education and awareness of suicide prevention.

A former school social worker, Bryant is currently volunteer chairperson of the Illinois Suicide Prevention Strategy Planning Committee.
