The name for the new super-efficient jet Boeing Co. plans to build will be the Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner, the Chicago-based aerospace company said Sunday at the Paris Air Show.

Boeing held a monthlong contest on the Internet to determine the name.

Nearly 500,000 votes were cast for four names, including Global Cruiser, which came in a close second, eLiner and Stratoclimber.

Plans for the 7E7 were announced in December, when Boeing decided not to build the Sonic Cruiser, a more costly plane that would have traveled near the speed of sound.

Boeing officials say the 7E7 is more in line with the needs of airline customers these days–a jet that uses about 20 percent less fuel than other wide-body planes.

The aircraft is expected to enter service in 2008.
