A human skull was found Sunday in Raceway Woods Forest Preserve in Carpentersville.
A hiker walking in the preserve made the discovery about 5 p.m. and contacted Carpentersville police who, in turn, notified the Kane County coroner’s office and the Forest Preserve District of Kane County police, according to information provided by Paul Burger, police chief for the forest preserve district.
The skull was confirmed to be human and “had been exposed to the elements for some time,” Burger said in an email.
The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation. Burger said “no additional leads have been generated by the evidence collected at the scene.”
