A Sandwich man died Wednesday night when his motorcycle struck a semitractor trailer at Illinois Highway 47 and Baseline Road, Kane County sheriff’s deputies said.
Gary A. Morel, 52, was declared dead at the scene, authorities said. The 37-year-old Granite City man driving the truck was neither injured nor issued a citation.
According to a preliminary investigation, Morel was riding west on Baseline when he ignored a red light and struck the truck, which was turning left onto eastbound Baseline from southbound Highway 47, deputies said.
