When Chad Meyers awoke his wife, Teri, with a 1 a.m. phone call Saturday, she was concerned. “First you hear that panic-stricken voice,” he recalled. “Then you get to share the good news.” Meyers had been recalled by the Mariners after batting .290 with 35 stolen bases at Triple-A Tacoma. Meyers returned to “the Show” for the first time since making 18 late-season appearances for the 2001 Cubs. A utility man, Meyers carries six gloves–but no catcher’s mitt. “Too tough on the knees,” he said. In three seasons on the North Side, Meyers, who turns 28 on Friday, played in 97 games with a .209 batting average (44 hits in 211 at-bats) with nine RBIs. He did have five stolen bases in eight attempts.Teddy Greenstein
