Just as most people are right-handed but some are left-handed, most people are heterosexual but some are homosexual. Homosexuality is not a choice but is physiologically based and, therefore, it is as natural for a gay couple to form a long term relationship/partnership as it is for a man and woman. To deny gay couples the advantages of a legal marriage is as wrong as it was to deny women and African-Americans the right to vote and own property.
We need to keep religion out of this, as was intended when separation of church and state was made a cornerstone of this country, and give gay people the same rights straight people have.
