A judge on Monday banned cameras and recorders from the court hearing in which prosecutors will outline their case against Scott Peterson, saying he didn’t want the case to become even more of a televised spectacle.

Stanislaus County Judge Al Girolami said the decision also would help retain some privacy for witnesses “who never asked to be involved” in the high-profile case.

The decision was a victory for prosecutors, who argued that letting the media broadcast the evidence against Peterson, accused of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, would escalate the frenzy surrounding the case.
