General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Isuzu have settled lawsuits challenging the nation’s toughest emissions standards, improving the chances that California’s requirements for cleaner cars could take effect. The automakers will not challenge new regulations for building low-polluting and non-polluting cars. In turn, the state will drop its appeals of the automakers’ suits, says Jerry Martin, a California Air Resources Board spokesman.
