On the several comments I’ve been reading in the letters to the editor section, and the “on your left” or other warning from bikers when approaching pedestrians (which often can be irritating), a really simple solution would be popularizing the old-fashioned bicycle handlebar bell. When biking in Europe, it’s practically unthinkable not to have a bell for warning folks, and for greetings as well.
