Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After seeing “Thirteen,” a new movie that looks at the brutal and scary side of Girl Culture, my head was spinning. Adolescent girls in the flick dressed like streetwalkers, did drugs, dabbled in sex, shoplifted, smacked each other, even turned to self-mutilation.

Leaving the darkened theater ahead of me, a father draped an arm over his daughter’s shoulders. The girl, about 13 herself and dressed in Britney midriff and shorts, looked up at him.

“You’re never leaving the house again,” he said with a smile. “Too many bad influences.”

Good idea; leave her home with MTV and the Internet.
