This is regarding the headline “Daley picks acting chief as top cop; Black chosen as second in command” (Page 1, Oct. 7). How disappointing and insulting for your staff to define Deputy Chief Dana Starks (the chosen second in command) by his race. Are we now defining a person solely by his race? Your headline should have read, “Dana Starks chosen as second in command.” He deserves the recognition by being named. Or to be racially accurate, you should have written, “Daley picks white acting chief as top cop.”
