Much has been said and written about traffic and drivers in the Chicago area. Here are my casual observations:
– There is no such thing as a red traffic light–it is merely another shade of green.
– A “stop” sign is a waste of taxpayers’ money as nobody stops and rarely slows down.
– The speed limit posted on a sign is obviously the minimum speed allowed.
– Turn signals on cars apparently do not work because you never see them in use during lane changes.
– It is mandatory to change lanes at least once every 100 yards.
– It is mandatory to cut off another car as often as possible during the above-mentioned lane changes.
– A “Warning: Construction ahead” sign actually means “speed up.”
– Traffic enforcement is virtually non-existent.
– “Right turn on red” actually means the driver has a free shot at the pedestrian in the crosswalk.
In summary, I have reached the conclusion that there is only one rule of the road: Namely there are no rules.
