Trustees this week began reviewing designs and cost estimates for the expansion and renovation of the village’s Police Department.

Representatives from Itasca Construction Associates and Gilfillan/Callahan Architects presented plans that include 11,000 square feet of renovation work and nearly 17,000 square feet of additional space.

Cost estimates project the design to cost about $5.4 million. Village Administrator Robin Weaver said a $1 million bond sale may be necessary to help pay for the building, which she said should meet the village’s needs for 40 years.
