Eagles 28, Giants 10

Story line: Donovan McNabb threw for 314 yards and two TDs in Philadelphia, and Brian Westbrook caught two TD passes and ran for a score in the Eagles’ fifth straight victory.

Star: McNabb completed 24-of-30 passes for his fifth career 300-yard performance.

Extra points: Tiki Barber had 111 yards rushing for the Giants (4-6) but failed to get into the end zone on a fourth-and-goal at Philadelphia’s 1 late in the first half. The Eagles are 7-3 after opening the season with two losses at home.

Quote: “From where we were after two games, everybody burning us up and trying to get us out of town, to where we are now is pretty exciting.”–McNabb.

Panthers 20, Redskins 17

Story line: Stephen Davis (92 yards on 28 carries) scored on a 3-yard run with 1:09 remaining to help host Carolina (8-2) beat his old team.

Star: Carolina’s defense held the Redskins to 41 yards total offense in the first half and forced three turnovers, one a recovery in the end zone after Rock Cartwright fumbled.

Extra points: Davis has rushed for 1,084 yards this season. Carolina’s Muhsin Muhammad had nine catches for a season-high 189 yards.

Quote: “It was personal, very personal.”–Davis on beating Washington.

Texans 12, Bills 10

Story line: Tony Banks came off the bench to spark the visiting Texans (4-6). He hit Andre Johnson for a 46-yard TD, which put Houston up 6-5 in the second quarter.

Star: Banks, who replaced the injured David Carr (shoulder), was 11-for-16 for 207 yards.

Extra points: The Bills (4-6) suffered their sixth loss in eight games, and their offense hasn’t scored in three games. Kicker Rian Lindell missed two field goals.

Quote: “I’m so mad. I don’t know what to do.”–Bills quarterback Drew Bledsoe.

Browns 44, Cardinals 6

Story line: Kelly Holcomb passed for 392 yards and three TDs, James Jackson had two TD runs and Phil Dawson kicked three field goals for the host Browns (4-6).

Star: Holcomb was 29-of-35 with no interceptions. He completed passes to eight receivers.

Extra points: Arizona (3-7) didn’t cross midfield until late in the first half, was outgained 235-60 by halftime and finished with just 10 first downs.

Quote: “It was like being back at the University of Miami beating up people.”–Browns safety Earl Little.

Titans 10, Jaguars 3

Story line: Steve McNair threw for a TD in Nashville, and the Titans (8-2) held off the Jaguars (2-8) at the goal line in the final minute for their fifth straight win.

Star: Jacksonville’s Hugh Douglas, who had his only sack of the season in the opener, had 1 1/2 sacks and forced a fumble.

Extra points: Tennessee failed to score 30 or more points for the first time in six games.

Quote: “The important thing is we won.”–Titans coach Jeff Fisher.

Saints 23, Falcons 20

Story line: John Carney kicked a 36-yard field goal in overtime to lift host New Orleans, which rallied from a 20-3 first-half deficit.

Star: Deuce McAllister, who fumbled twice and was held to 20 yards in the first half, finished with 173 yards and two TDs for the Saints (5-5).

Extra points: Atlanta’s Jay Feely, who kicked two earlier field goals, missed a 54-yarder in overtime. Warrick Dunn gained 162 yards on 23 carries for the Falcons (2-8).

Quote: “I’m obviously gratified that we won, but I’m definitely disappointed for the two fumbles.”–McAllister.

Dolphins 9, Ravens 6

Story line: Olindo Mare hit a 43-yard field goal with 8:48 left in OT for the host Dolphins (6-4) after missing a 48-yarder that would have put them ahead with 2:29 left in regulation.

Star: Miami’s defense held NFL rushing leader Jamal Lewis to 88 yards on 26 carries, just the third time this season he failed to reach 100 yards.

Extra points: Lewis lost a fumble to set up Mare’s winning field goal. The Ravens (5-5) lost their second straight.

Quote: “Ugly or not, we needed it.”–Miami defensive end Adewale Ogunleye.

Broncos 37, Chargers 8

Story line: Host Denver (6-4) came flying out of its week off, totaling 448 yards and taking a 27-0 halftime lead. The Chargers (2-8) managed just 96 yards–three in the second and third quarters.

Star: Broncos QB Jake Plummer hit 23-of-34 passes for 253 yards and three TDs after missing four games with foot and shoulder injuries.

Extra points: Shannon Sharpe caught seven passes for 101 yards and had three TDs.

Quote: “We came out and made plays for the first time in a while.”–Plummer.

Seahawks 35, Lions 14

Story line: The Seahawks scored on four of their first five possessions en route to a 35-14 halftime lead.

Star: Former Bear Bobby Engram had an 83-yard punt return for a TD and caught a 34-yard scoring pass as Seattle (7-3) improved to 6-0 at home.

Extra points: The Lions (3-7) have lost 21 straight on the road, two shy of the Houston Oilers’ NFL record.

Quote: “I’m just the supporting cast, and I enjoy that.”–Engram.

MONDAY MATCHUP
