Thanksgiving holiday travel for 131 passengers was interrupted briefly when their plane made an emergency landing Thursday morning at O’Hare International Airport after pilots smelled what they thought might be smoke in the cockpit, airline officials said.

Northwest Airlines Flight 1283 left Midway Airport just after 9 a.m. and was a half an hour into its flight to Minneapolis when pilots noticed an “electrical” smell they thought might be smoke, said Jake Reint, a Northwest Airlines spokesman.

The plane turned around and was diverted to O’Hare, where it landed without incident.

There were no injuries and passengers were rerouted to other planes, he said.

After a four-hour check of the plane, it was approved again for flight, he said.
