State officials were investigating reports that a 4-month-old South Side girl who died Sunday may have been sexually abused, authorities said.
Takaya Taylor of the 8200 block of South Avalon Avenue was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m. Sunday in Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, a Cook County medical examiner’s spokesman said.
The Department of Children and Family Services also is investigating reports that the infant may have had bruises, welts and cuts, said DCFS spokeswoman Jill Manuel.
The department began investigating after an abuse hot-line call reported the infant had been found dead in her home, Manuel said.
The agency is also investigating allegations the baby’s five siblings also may have been abused, Manuel said.
DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, she said.
Chicago police will continue a death investigation, pending results from an autopsy scheduled for Monday, authorities said.
