An Aurora man was listed in critical condition in Mercy Center Monday, a day after he and another man were shot on the city’s west side, police said.
The victim, 26, who was shot in the side, was in the back seat of a car driven by a 33-year-old Aurora man who was treated at Mercy for a graze wound in the right arm and released. A 23-year-old front-seat passenger was not injured.
Two men standing at Hammond and Illinois Avenues fired at the car as it drove by about 5:44 p.m. Sunday, police said. The car crashed into a tree on the 700 block of Hammond.
The critically wounded man was found on a nearby front lawn and the other two were found in nearby homes.
Shortly after, an Aurora man, 20, was dropped off at Mercy Center, where he was treated for a graze wound in the foot and released.
Police, who were holding the man Monday as a suspect in the case, said he might have accidentally shot himself in the foot.
