I thought with the horrible season of football that Notre Dame is finishing, perhaps the pro-Notre Dame bias that is constantly demonstrated in the Tribune sports section would be on hiatus. I was wrong. The ND basketball team lost by 13 points to a lower-ranked Marquette team and Dan McGrath finds the gall to write a lengthy article (Tribune, Dec. 3) about the “promise” of this ND team.

I am pretty certain he wrote this article wearing an Irish stocking cap. He also writes, “Switch the result around …”, yeah, and if Spartacus had a Piper Cub . . .

Interesting that Tribune readers have to read about Notre Dame athletic “promise” and not the reality of other regional teams’ success. Purdue University is almost exactly the same distance from Chicago as ND. The student body is approximately five times as big, it has a football team currently ranked 11th in the national polls and men’s and women’s basketball programs that are both ranked. The men’s team beat second-ranked Duke in Alaska over the weekend and barely rated a mention in the Tribune.

Unless ND has Tribune reporter Avani Patel held captive, there is really no explanation for her almost daily ND “pep rally” stories. It is entertaining to read these nutty articles by writers so blinded by the bizarre cult of past ND glory. Keep up the crazy work.
